Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information Astrology Insights collects, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We've tried to keep this clear and readable — no legalese walls, just honest answers.

What We Collect

To generate your birth chart and astrological readings, we collect:

• Identity information — your name and email address, provided via Google OAuth when you sign in
• Profile picture — from your Google account (used to personalize your experience)
• Friend discovery information — your editable public display name, optional public handle, search-visibility setting, private invite-link fingerprint and expiry, connection attempts, blocks, decline cooldowns, and category-only safety reports. Your initial friend display name is copied once from your account name when it is safe to use, then stored separately so you can change it without changing your Google account. Your sign-in email, Google profile picture, and Google account identifier are never friend-search keys or result fields
• Birth data — your full birth date, birth time, and birth city/country
• Chat messages — the questions you ask and responses from our AI
• AI-generated memories — insights our AI learns about you from your charts and conversations, to make future readings more personal
• Presentation preferences — your optional astrology familiarity choice, used only to adjust wording depth, which explanations start expanded, and a small set of recommended next steps; it never limits which features you can reach
• Beta program information — if you join a beta, the cohort, feature access settings, invite redemption, and grant date associated with your account
• Life-event journal entries — the dates, titles, and optional notes you save on a chart's Transit Timeline, along with a snapshot of any major transits then in orb when that snapshot can be computed
• Payment information — if you upgrade, your Stripe customer ID (we never store full card numbers)

Why We Collect It

Everything we collect has a clear purpose:

• Birth data is used to calculate and render your astrological chart
• Your name and email are used to identify your account and send you account-related messages
• Friend discovery information lets people find accounts through partial display-name or handle matches, send and manage requests, exchange expiring invite links, and use blocking, throttling, cooldown, and reporting protections. Search visibility starts on; you can opt out at any time and then your account is absent from all results. Friend search never uses or shows your sign-in email. A temporary, blind exact-email request fallback may privately resolve an account to deliver a request, but it always returns the same generic response and never exposes whether the email belongs to an account
• Chat messages and memories allow the AI to give you personalized, contextual readings over time
• Presentation preferences adjust wording depth, which explanations start expanded, and recommended next steps; they do not affect billing or feature access
• Beta program information lets us provide, manage, and revoke promotional feature access without changing your subscription
• Life-event journal entries let you keep a private dated record alongside the astrological conditions calculated for that time; they are not sent to an AI provider to create the journal entry or its transit snapshot
• Public share links are available from your chart page. If you choose to share one, anyone with the link can see the name on that chart, birth city and date, chart wheel, and the full AI reading if one exists now or is added later
• Payment info enables subscription management via Stripe

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling outside of astrology features, or any purpose beyond what's listed here.

How It's Stored

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Render, a US-based cloud platform. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We use standard security practices, but no system is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password for your Google account.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing or commercial purposes. Full stop.

To make the app work, some of your data is shared with the service providers we rely on to run its core features. Here are those providers, what they receive, and why. Website-usage analytics is covered separately in the Google Analytics section below.

• Google — handles sign-in. It processes your authentication request, and in return we receive your name, email address, and profile picture.
• Our AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic) — generates your readings, chat replies, and AI memories. To do this it receives the information each reading is built from: your name and full birth details (date, time, and place), your chart's calculated positions, your chat questions, and any stored AI memories. This is more than just your chat messages. Which provider is used depends on our current configuration, and both may be used.
• RapidAPI (Astrologer service) — calculates birth-chart positions. Most charts are computed locally on our own servers, but in some cases — as a fallback or an alternate calculation engine — your name and full birth details, including exact time and location coordinates, are sent to RapidAPI to compute the chart.
• Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — converts your birth place into map coordinates. It receives the birth city and country text you enter so we can locate it.
• Stripe — processes payments if you subscribe. It receives your payment details directly; we never see or store full card numbers.
• Render — our hosting provider, where your data is stored and where the app runs.
• Our email delivery / SMTP provider (provider configurable) — delivers transit and daily-digest notification emails. These emails are strictly opt-in and off by default. If you opt in, the provider receives your email address and the astrology-related message content needed to deliver the email.

Each of these providers operates under its own privacy policy governing the data it receives. The commercial providers (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, RapidAPI, Stripe, and Render) are also bound by data-processing terms; Nominatim / OpenStreetMap is a public community service that we use under its usage policy.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — things like which pages are popular and how long sessions last. This data is aggregated and anonymized. Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete an individual life-event journal entry from its chart's Transit Timeline. Deleting a chart also permanently deletes its journal entries and chats, plus every compatibility reading directly linked to that source chart — even a reading and report-focused conversation in another user's history — without notifying that other user. When you delete your account, everything in our own database that belongs to your account — birth charts, life-event journal entries, chat history, AI memories, beta redemption history, beta access settings, profile information, discovery profile and handle, friend invite tokens, blocks, cooldowns, attempts, and friend safety reports — is deleted immediately and cannot be recovered. If you created a beta invite as an administrator, the invite may remain for operational continuity, but it is no longer linked to your account.

Compatibility readings in another user's history that directly identify one of your source charts are deleted with that chart. Older compatibility readings without enough source-chart information cannot be attributed safely and may remain; we do not guess from names or saved chart text. Group compatibility readings remain part of their owners' histories: when you delete your account, we remove the link to your account, but those readings may still include your name and chart details. Data we have already sent to the providers listed above (for example, the birth details sent to our AI provider to generate a reading) is retained and deleted according to each provider's own policy, not ours. Separately, routine encrypted backups and server logs kept by our hosting platform may hold some information for a short time before they age out and are overwritten on their normal schedule. These copies are not used to restore a deleted account.

Your Rights & Controls

You're in control of your data:

• View your data — visit My Data to see AI-generated memories we've stored about you
• Delete individual memories — remove specific insights from the My Data page at any time
• Delete journal entries — remove an individual life event from its chart's Transit Timeline at any time
• Turn chart sharing off — use Stop Sharing on a chart page to make an existing public chart link show a no-longer-shared notice. Resume Sharing reactivates the same link
• Control friend discovery — search visibility starts on. On the Friends page you can opt out completely, choose or remove an optional handle, reset or revoke private invite links, block accounts, and report safety concerns. Opted-out accounts are absent from results. Sign-in email addresses are never search keys and are never shown in search results or friend rows; AstroAI does not currently publish an account avatar in friend search
• Delete your account — permanently erase your account and its data from our active database on the My Data page, subject to the retention exceptions above

GDPR rights (EU/EEA residents):

• Right to access — request a copy of your personal data
• Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Right to data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Right to object — object to certain types of processing

CCPA rights (California residents):

• Right to know — what personal information we collect and how we use it
• Right to delete — request deletion of your personal information
• Right to opt-out of sale — we don't sell your data, so this right is already satisfied
• Right to non-discrimination — we won't treat you differently for exercising your rights

Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you logged in. We also use Google Analytics cookies (see above). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies beyond these.

Children's Privacy

Astrology Insights is intended for users 18 and older (or 13+ with parental consent). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll post an updated version here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
